Texas Rose Festival Scholarship Essay

Description

This scholarship will be awarded to a Smith County graduating senior or a current college student. Preference is for those who have participated in the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Texas.

The amount awarded may vary depending on number of scholarships and funds available.

Requirements

High School / Residency
Recipient must be a graduating senior at a Smith County public or private high school, homeschool, or a current college student who attended a Smith County school.

Academic Record
The recipient must have achieved a minimum GPA of at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her high school or college studies.

College or University to be Attended
Recipients must attend a college or university located in the State of Texas.

Financial Need
Financial need is a primary consideration.

Preference
Preference is given to students who have participated in the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Texas.

Dependents of scholarship committee members are not eligible to apply. Applicants should be available for a personal interview, if requested.

This scholarship is but one of the numerous generous philanthropic gifts to the Tyler community made possible by Mrs. Braithwaite. This scholarship will be awarded to an East Texas graduating senior who plans on majoring in biology, mathematics, engineering or a related field which will allow the student to pursue a career in medicine, biotechnology, or veterinary medicine. Only students planning a career as a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, or biotechnologist qualify. Please apply for other scholarships ETCF offers if you plan a career as a nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician’s assistant, pharmacist, neuroscientist, dietician, etc.

High School / Residency 

Recipient must be a graduating senior from a public, private or home school in one of ETCF’s East Texas counties.*

Academic Record
Recipients must have achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his or her high school.

College or University to be Attended
Recipients may attend any accredited college or university in the United States as a full-time student.

College Major
Applicants must plan on pursuing an undergraduate major in biology, mathematics, engineering, or a related field that will allow them to pursue a career in medicine, biotechnology, or veterinary medicine.

Financial Need
Financial need is not a consideration.

Length of Support

This scholarship is awarded for one year, and may be renewed subject to committee approval for up to three additional years, provided the recipient:

  • Maintains a 3.0 GPA
  • Remains a full-time student
  • Continues to pursue a major that will lead to a career as a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, or biotechnologist

Scholarship Amount
Varies depending on funds available and number of scholarships awarded. Historically, $3,000 per recipient has been awarded.
